(IN)VISIBLE ARCHIVES

Imaginations, Utopias, Fictions and Realities of the Archive

The idea of the archive – and with it each extisting and imaginary archive – is informed by an unresolvable dilemma: Each inclusion requires exclusions. Whatever is made visible refers to what remains invisible. Any striving for preservation is a struggle with decay. The aim for completeness is always doomed to fail.
The only way to deal with this dilemma is to make it productive.

The research focus encompasses projects dealing with different aspects of (in)visible archives and archivalia.

Further information on completed and ongoing projects (1995-present), events and publications will be provided step by step.
Thank you for your patience.
