kein mensch ist eine insel. ob man dem zustimmt oder nicht: es gibt inseln, die sind nicht nur teil jener landschaft, die sich vor unseren augen erstreckt. sondern ebenso teil innerer landschaften – von denen sich die eine oder andere zuweilen sogar materialisiert zu haben scheint…

im ersten teil der sendung reist brendan wilson mit uns nach wolfe island, der grössten insel im lake ontario. mit einem schiff aus klang auf einem see aus klang.

im anschluss im anschluss durchwandern wir mit richard lerman und louise k. wilson militärgebiete von alaska bis neu mexiko, von denen kaumm zufällig einige auf inseln gelegen sind.

no man is an island. true or not. for at the same time, there are islands that are not only part of the outer landscapes streching before our eyes. but also mirrors of our inner ladnscapes. and some of these do even materialize…

in the first part of the show brendan wilson takes us to a trip to wolfe island. with a ship made of sound on a lake made of sound riding through the landscapes of the mind:

"Across the lake from downtown Kingston Ontario is Wolfe Island, the largest of The Thousand Islands. This episode of radia immerses oneself with a path away from the mainland, through a combination of soundscapes on the move and spoken word segments of tranquility from Henry David Thoreau’s, Walden. Aleutian Internment – Inside a hunting dwelling on the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea (amplified whale bone, grass, rain, wild celery and a wind harp) Funter Bay Internment camp (slats of the goldmine camp building where they were interned, windharp, rain) Windharp and weeds at a Cemetery across from the Internment camp at Funter BaySeals on St Paul Island, the Pribilofs Ugadaga Bay, looking towards Biorka Island and an Iris in the wind and snow, recorded on Unalaska Islan. (01) Trinity Site – Trinity Site, near Alamagordo, NM, was recorded in April 1997. Two times a year, the site where the first atomic bomb was tested, is opened up to visitors and many hundreds of people attend. I began recording from the car as I entered the military check point. Later, I recorded sounds from piezo disks attached to glass pieces that I placed into the earth. Also heard are sounds recorded from the fence surrounding ground zero and amplified, grass, weeks and footsteps of persons at the site. (03)
