two trips to radiawonderland! the first one is directed by joshua fried who invites us to his radio wonderland show, featuring the artis and performer creating with the help of his crazy home made instruments beautiful live sound art pieces from fm radio bits.

"Joshua Fried remixes live FM radio into danceable sounds at the Spark Festival with Max/MSP software and his unique home made instruments is free103point9's contribution to the Radia network. Joshua Fried's Radio Wonderland slogan is 'turning the bits and bytes of commercial culture into the driving backbeat to our dance of independence.' Every Radio Wonderland show starts with an empty palette, and all sounds are gathered from a live boombox playing commercial FM radio. All processing is done in Max/MSP software written by Joshua Fried. And all the processing is controlled in real time by Fried, using a vintage steering wheel (from a Buick 6), old shoes hit with sticks, and various gizmos. The surreal touch of using these ordinary objects is meant to underscore the absurd disconnect between digital controller (drum pad, mouse, infra red) and the sound it triggers or controls. This live recording was made in February '08 at the Spark Festival, Minneapolis Minnesota, U.S. The 35-minute raw material was condensed and gently remixed by NYC producer DJ Easy Beat." [T.R.]

the second trip is led by sanyi from irodalmi lépegetö – a wild wild ride through radio- and soundscapes from history to present and back again.

"Mainly English and French archival sound with some Hungarian and Welsh here and there – mixed with music.
Starting with Nina Simone's French rendering of Ne me quittez pas on the musical front, and Eliot's Family Reunion on the textual, it plunges into a verbal mix of radio-history, a trip to London – with both Big Ben songs being Hungarian jazz compositions from the sixties – however unlikely it may sound. With Fernand a Londres we switch into French, and fly on with their version of the Apollo 11 trip to arrive back on the Earth with the help of Nicole Louvier. We land in Barcelona, and take an oldschool automobile just to arrive in the office of gangbusters in chicago. And we say good bye with Ella scatting Good Enough to Keep – just to make sense of this jumble of communication forms. […]
Irodalmi Lépegetö is the Sunday afternoon literary show at Budapest's Tilos Radio, usually using Hungarian texts with different styles of music corresponding to the atmosphere of the spoken word. Also organising live events with writers performing to musical and visual background." [I.L.]
