MAKE ME LAUGH (SERIOUSLY!). Writing With An Accent : HumourLecture | Vortrag Whatever happened to humour in contemporary art critique? Fortunately, it has not died. It may be not the dominant mode of writing, and thus examples are perhaps not that easy to find when browsing through recent issues of major art magazines. However, it’s there. But where? To get a better picture, I want to invite participants to take a look at selected examples of recent contributions to art magazines and other publications we might consider as examples of writing with an accent of humour. Some of these critiques may indeed look like caricatures rather than texts. But this shall not remind us of what we otherwise would probably regard as mirroring rather sore developments in our field of profession, i.e. the shrinking text-image-ratio in many publications (and if so, we could take these as best practice examples showing us how to tell a lot without making many words – right?). Participants are also cordially invited to bring their own favourite examples. If available: some humour. And perhaps paper plus pencil (just in case).
