Absence… Absence. First hand, the opposite of presence. However, a second sight will make the proof it's not that easy at all. For absence and presence are not simply opposites (even if in some cases they seem to be: full presence, complete absence). I.e., a notion of absence usually comes with the idea of something/somebody being absent now has been present before (and/or might be present – again – later). Like there'd be an (in)visible gap to fill, and be it by imagination. Moreover, we'll find a whole spectrum of hybrid states between (absolute) absence and (full) presence. Enter here: examples. |
