Apparative Media… At first hand, apparative media seem to be a great support for record and documentation in general, and notably for recording and documenting live action (i.e. performance). However, the capabilities of apparative media – and especially those related to issues of documentation – are obviously limited. Moreover, it is important not to confuse "recording" and "documentation". Usually apparative media will only support certain functions (mainly audio and/or visual), but omit those related to other senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch). Further limitations are set by human factors (mistakes, lack of technical skills – but also attention, subjective interests etc.). And, last but not least, apparative media are prone to decay and therefore of loss of information as well. Thus, we find limitations on a technical, a material (matter-related), and a user-related level. […] |
