Flower TimeConcepts and Considerations We can assume that each life form has its own time. So we may i.e. speak of "plant time" (see ibid.) – and there are in fact people who have coined the term "flower time". This concept of flower time is, however, only loosely related to the dominant use of the phrase: many people speak of "flower time" to describe the flowering period of a plant (or plants in plural). In contrast to that, there is indeed a notion of flower time more closely related to the concept of a time defined by the timely structure of a flower's life, or, more precisely spoken: that is related to the biological clock of plants (see also: Chronobiology, Circadian Time) . One of the most prominent examples (if not: 'the' most prominent example) for the cultural outcome of a scientific perspective on the biological clock of plants is Carolus Linnaeus' "Horologium Florae" (see: Flower Clocks). However, we can also mention a nice example for an explicit reference to "flower time" in the arts: The film "Das Blumenwunder" (loose translation; "The micracle of flowers"), produced in 1926 as a promotional film for BASF, sports this term. … Related entries: |
