Transformations of an Abolished Archive

In 2018, the slide collections of the Institute of Art History and of the Institute of Art Education are being abolished. What will remain?

Students will explore the remainders of the collections that over decades used to be important tools for education and research, but meanwhile have been superseeded by their digital heirs.

The interdisciplinary project encompasses artistic and scholarly research with related studio work, seminars, workshops and lectures organized by the Institute of Art Education's departments Malerei-Grafik (Painting-Graphics) and Visuelle Kultur (Visual Culture); results will be presented in an exhibition and a publication.

Special thanks to our partners, and especially to Doris Reichert, Bildstelle Kunsthistorisches Institut der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, who initially came up with the idea for an artistic project based on the collection, and to Prof. Dr. Adelheid Sievert, emerita Institute for Art Education
as well as to the partners and funders of the related ongoing project "Formate der Fotografie" (Formats of Photography).

Organization & Coordination:
Prof. Kerstin Gottschalk (Malerei-Grafik), Prof. Dr. Verena Kuni (Visuelle Kultur), Christina Zück (Malerei-Grafik)
