sounding objects. however, of considerably different nature(s). one the one hand side there are those made for making sounds. but then there are others of which we definitely did not know – things being transformed into instruments…

in the first part of the show artist luc kerleo is installing some of his pieces in the radio studio – sounds meet sounds:

"Jet FM asked Luc Kerleo to invade her studios. Several sound-objects were placed in the offices, corridors, toilettes… Curiosly the broadcast studios were not used. Then some people were invited to visit this exhibition made of artificial noises bursting in those different locations around the studios, playing with its acoustic, its visual ambiency, its context…
The result is a 28 minutes radio show where Luc Kerleo explain his work and where you can hear the sounds of the exhibition mixed with the music which was on air at that time and some real noises due to people working in the radio." [JFM]

afterwards, joshua fried invites us for another time to is radio wonderland:

"Joshua Fried remixes live FM radio into danceable sounds at the Spark Festival with Max/MSP software and his unique home made instruments is free103point9's contribution to the Radia network. Joshua Fried's Radio Wonderland slogan is 'turning the bits and bytes of commercial culture into the driving backbeat to our dance of independence.' Every Radio Wonderland show starts with an empty palette, and all sounds are gathered from a live boombox playing commercial FM radio. All processing is done in Max/MSP software written by Joshua Fried. And all the processing is controlled in real time by Fried, using a vintage steering wheel (from a Buick 6), old shoes hit with sticks, and various gizmos. The surreal touch of using these ordinary objects is meant to underscore the absurd disconnect between digital controller (drum pad, mouse, infra red) and the sound it triggers or controls. This live recording was made in February '08 at the Spark Festival, Minneapolis Minnesota, U.S. The 35-minute raw material was condensed and gently remixed by NYC producer DJ Easy Beat." [T.R.]
