two research expeditions.

the first one was undertaken by maarten lauwaert and joris van damme. we'll follow them to poland to explore the very last remaining primeval forest on european ground:

"Maarten Lauwaert and Joris Van Damme both graduated last June from RITS Brussels, an audiovisual arts college, with distinction in the area of 'radio'. For their Masterclass Audio, they went to Poland, to the last primeval forest in Europe, the Bialowieza Forest. In short, a forest where there was no human influence in the last 4000 years; the last place in Europe where you can see real prestine and untouched nature! They interviewed locals, forest preservation workers, scientists… At first they made a radio documentary with the material they recorded, but they also made a more subjective and abstract audio piece from it. " [LvD]

the second expedition invites us to hainburg in austria, where lale rodgarkia-dara and barbara kaiser did some research on the stange life of a flock of magic sound machines gathering there in spring 2009.

host for this gathering was the ima institute of media archeology and its exhibition "zauberhafte klangmaschinen" ("magic sound machines"), curated by elisabeth schimana and running from september 20th, 2008 until april 19th, 2009 at kulturfabrik hainburg (at).
