Time Travel

Concepts and Considerations

Above all – and this is true in terms of physics als well as in terms of psychology – we should always keep in mind: All travels are time travels.

However, nowadays for many people ideas of time travel are not only strongly associated with the use of Time Machines (see also ibid.). Also, Time Machines are strongly associated with phantasies of vehicles. This is obviously the case due to historical developments in science and technology: both the ideas of time travel and the phantasies about vehicles are closely related to contemporary theories about the physics of time, space, and velocity on the one hand side, and on the other to applications of these in engineering, namely the construction of engines used for travel and transport.

Of course the relation between the former and the latter is usually informed by a certain asynchrony (see ibid.). So the however imaginary, but then also literally pictured Time Machines i.e. in literature and film will differ from contemporary means of travel and transport in function and in design. Curiously, often one will find not only futuristic features. A closer look may also reveal parts related to the past, i.e. to abandoned technologies and "forgotten" inventions.

However, it makes sense to think about Time Travel (and Time Machines) in a broader scope, and to do so not only in the way of thought experiments as we know them i.e. from relativity theory.
Indeed, there is a whole variety of mechanisms enabling us to travel in time.

Among the mechanisms widely used are a.o. memory, dreams and imagination. Yet these three are not always acknowleged as such, especially as many assume that time travels in dreams, imagination and memory are only temporary sensions, reversible, and in the end not changing anything in terms of time-space relations. But this is an error, for as a matter all sensations and experiences have effects. In the case of human beings these effects may remain unconscious, yet they are taking place by the way of transformations on the neurophysiological level.

Nevertheless (or perhaps more precisely: for this very reason) it makes sense to think about and research for other mechanisms for time travel as well.

In the framework of our research related to the activities of and within the [Time Inventors' Kabinet], this is done by examining, implementing and testing [TIME BENDING CLOCK mechanisms] (see ibid.)
