Autophones: Hören mit den Ohren der Brücke | Listening with the Ears of a Bridge

Wo andere eine Brücke sehen, entdeckt der kanadische Percussionist Michael Gambacurta ein Autophon – ein selbstklingendes Instrument, welches als Ganzes schwingend Töne und Geräusche vielfältigster Art erzeugt:
Die Kaiserleibrücke über den Main zwischen Frankfurt und Offenbach, Autobahn A661. Sie bildet den Resonanzkörper für die Fahrgeräusche der unzähligen Autos und Lastwagen, die sie tagtäglich überrollen. Die Struktur der Kaiserleibrücke selbst kommt zum Klingen, moduliert durch Verkehr, Wind und Wetter. Ein unendliches Konzert, dessen Thema immer neue Variationen erfährt.

Michael Gambacurta hat den Klängen der Brücke gelauscht und einige Takte ihrer Musik entwendet, um gemeinsam mit dem Komponisten Matthias S. Krüger eine Konzert-Hommage zu entwickeln, die uns mit den Ohren der Brücke hören lässt: Autophones.

Vom 19. bis 21. September lässt sich Autophones im Rahmen des Festival Junger Talente im Hafen Offenbach als Klang-Raum-Installation in einem Container vis-à-vis der Kaiserleibrücke erleben.
Über radio x ist Autophones auch im (Auto-)Radio zu hören – vielleicht sogar, wenn man gerade selbst über die Kaiserleibrücke fährt…

Ab dem 15. September gibt es mehrfach täglich eine kleine Dosis Autophones zum Einschwingen, am 19. September wird im Rahmen von GUNSTradio (14:00-15:00) ein Autophones Radio-Konzert ausgestrahlt.

Eine weitere Autophones-Radiokonzertsendung ist für das Radiokunst-Festival RadiaLx (Lissabon, 22. bis 28. September) geplant.

Hörproben ab 15.09. bis 19.09. täglich jeweils 08:08 Uhr, 13:08 Uhr und 18:08 Uhr (direkt im Anschluss an die Nachrichten)
Konzert und mehr am 19.09. um 14:00 Uhr im Rahmen von GUNST, der Sendung zur zeitgenössischen Kunst.

Autophones ist ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt von Michael Gambacurta (Leitung/Komposition), Matthias S. Krüger (Komposition) und Yuki Higashino (Visuelle Gestaltung/Installation).

Where others see a bridge, the Canadian percussionist Michael Gambacurta discovered an autophone – a musical instrument whose own substance produces sound with a vibrant tone.
The Kaiserlei-Bridge over river Main between Frankfurt and Offenbach is the soundboard for countless vehicles crossing daily. A sounding structure, tuned by the traffic, wind and weather – an endless concert, endless variations of a theme.

Michael Gambacurta listened for a long time over the days, during the nights – and decided to steal some of the sounds. Together with the composer Matthias S. Krüger he created a Concert-Hommage that makes us hear with the ears of the brigde: Autophones.

From September 19th to September 21st, Autophones is being presented as an audiovisual installation in a container vis-à-vis Kaiserlei bridge in the framework of Festival Junger Talente at Hafen Offenbach.
On radio x Autophones can be received as (car) radio cconcert – perhaps right that minute your're crossing the brigde with your car…

From Sept 15th onwards you can listen daily to small doses of Autophones; on Sept 19th GUNSTradio (2pm to 3pm) invites you to listen to Autophones radio concert.

Another version of Autophones Radio will be broadcasted in the framework of RadiaLx Radio Art Festival (Lisbon, Sept 22nd till Sept 28th).
