Wind Time

Concepts and Considerations

Note: This article is not about time needed to wind up something, i.e. a clock.

Wind is related to time in many ways. Most obviously of course by its speed. By meteorology in general. And, over a longer period of time, also in terms of climate.

We have also several mythological notions of wind time.

You might think of the Aerides, the Tower of Winds in Athens (see ibid.), as a building related to Greek mythology and at the same time being a clock.

Moreover, in the second part of Völuspá – the first poem of Edda telling the story of the creation of the world – neatly embedded in the narrative of the violent Ragnarök fight between Gods and Giants we find the lines: "[…] Windzeit, Wolfszeit / bis einstürzt die Welt […]".
Note: This notion of "Windzeit" is only valid for the German translation of "vindǫd, vargǫld – / áðr verǫld steypiz […]", for here the term "Zeit" can equally mean "Time" as well as "Era" or "Age". The English translation would rather read "wind age, wolf age – before the world goes headlong".

However, dealing with Wind Time is also a core part of the research within the Time Inventors' Kabinet (see ibid.):

"The Time Inventors' Kabinet has decided that we will abandon the link between time and light and live with the linguistic, social and mental problems this can give rise to.
We use wind instead and use it as a giant source of entropy and (a)synchronicity. We might keep some reference to the concept of day as related to the sun, but that is all."
[see: the related ]]article about Wind Time[[ in the TIK Wiki]

Well, as a matter of fact there are – at least so far – some more references to and dependences on traditional concepts of time; not to mention that wind itself is far from being a "giant source of entropy and (a)synchronicity" anway.

Not only TIK Wind Time is being measured in Tiks, Taks, and Toks (= Wind Time Seconds, Wind Time Minutes and Wind Time Hours), geographically located (Wind Time Zones being precisely related to GPS coordinates).

Moreover, the TIK Wind Clock scripts as well as their coordination has to deal with server time and synchronization.

However, apart from this for the time being TIK Wind Time provides a framework interesting enough for further research, exploration and reflections both on the level of theory and in practice, as well as for a whole variety of experiments.

Several TIK Wind Clocks (see: Wind Clocks) have been installed so far, allowing to work with TIK Wind Time in practice.

In example, TIK Radio now is running on Wind Time, including its schedule being programmed according to Wind Days, Tiks, Taks and Toks.

As a matter of fact, already during our first practical experiments over the TIK Radio Art Radio Week in Bratislava, we were not only exploring, but experiencing wind time as a wonderful and powerful tool for time bending indeed.
