He was a slender man of average height in his 60s, adressing the Lido with his back turned to the city. At first, there was no one around listening, eventually, later, some passer-bys stopped… just like me. He never turned around, he didn't even cast a glance at his listeners. I had the most awful stomach cramps from having eaten something I shouldn't, my forehead was covered in sweat from pain – but I held the recorder… just so.

Over the past months, Hungary has been rather present in German media – however, the reason was not so much a genuine interest in Hungarian life and culture, but the European refugee politics. But then at least some people may have been felt invited to remember the debates that took place more or less exactly five years ago, asking themselves how things have developed after the much-discussed novel of Hungarin media law in 2010.

In springtime, in springtime… well: not only the birds do sing, but also rich green is growing everywhere. Bewteen all the sprouts and blossoms: who is aware of the ones that are missing? Indeed it seems the extinct and the rare become even more invisible now. Not to mention that, in contrast to the notorious Dodo, their remainders are usually not among the more prominent dust collectors in our museums of natural history.
